Ashraf serves currently on the boards of global and Regional Pharmaceuticals, Biotech, Medical devices, Self-medications, and digital health companies. He also serves as senior executive advisor for global M&A investment firms, private equity funds and family conglomerates both in Europe and in middle east. Recently Ashraf was serving as the CEO of the Pharmaceutical Investment Company (PIC) which is the life science arm for the Public Investment Fund (PIF). PIF is a global investment powerhouse and one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world, with assets of more than $900 billion at both domestic and international levels.
In his CEO capacity, Ashraf was fully responsible for creating and implementing strategic, financial, and operational leadership for the life science company, collaborating closely with senior executive team representing both the government shareholders and the board of directors. Prior to joining PIF in early 2021, Ashraf has worked for seven years as the Regional Vice President of Mundipharma Middle East, Turkey, and Africa region, based in Dubai. Mundipharma is a leading research, development, and manufacturing privately held US pharmaceutical company with annual revenues of ~$4.0 billion. in his capacity, Ashraf was responsible for managing the business across the META region and was fully accountable for profit and loss. in addition, he was a member of the global senior executive team.
Ashraf has served as the Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Association of American and European research-based manufacturing pharma companies (PhRMA) in the Middle East and Africa. He was elected for several years by the industry leaders of the member multinational companies.
In addition, he was also the Chairman of the Board, for the Self-Medication Industry Association for the Middle East and Africa region and served also on the executive board of Mecomed, the industry’s regional association for medical devices and diagnostics.
Before joining Mundipharma in late 2013, Ashraf was appointed by Amgen, one of the world's largest Biopharmaceuticals companies (Market Cap ~ USD 300 bn) as the Vice President for International corporate & Business Development based in Switzerland, in addition to having full profit and loss responsibility for Italy, Greece, Balkans and Israel. He was also heading the corporate development focusing on growth, diversification, and globalization of the company’s business and was one of the key executives in the global strategy and commercial development executive team.
In late 2006, Ashraf moved from Zurich to Dubai to set up Amgen's operation in the META region which in less than six years became one of the leading, top-ranked company in the region.
From 2001-2004, Ashraf worked at Johnson & Johnson as Managing Director, responsible for managing the group’s umbrella of diversified medical devices and diagnostics companies based in Cairo.
Prior to J&J, he has worked for Eli Lilly & Company in a variety of manufacturing, general management, commercial, management development, and business development senior roles in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. He was also the Director of Global Economic Affairs and Pricing based in Indiana, USA, having previously been based in Geneva, Switzerland as the director of Area Sales and Marketing Operations for Central Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa.
